Volunteering at Kenneth Taylor School
We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Please note we will not be processing any applications for the month of June & September.
Illness & Medical
Children who are not feeling well should not be sent to school as it is extremely difficult for them to engage in their work. They may also pass their illness on to other children or staff members and create further absences. Children who become ill at school will be taken to the infirmary and, if they are too ill to return to class, a parent will be notified. A child is never sent home alone.
Please instruct your children that if they are sick or hurt they should inform their teacher or the office. In accordance with Alberta Health, if a child has a fever or flu symptoms, they should be kept home for a minimum of 24 hours from last fever or stomach illness.
Drop off and Pick up of Students
Just a reminder that doors are open for all students no earlier than 7:45 am and instructional/classroom time starts at 8:00 am. Efforts made to have students at school before 8:00am with enough time to get in their classroom for an 8:00 am start time are greatly appreciated.
For afterschool pickups, students must be picked up on time each day at dismissal at 2:30 pm. We understand that occasionally other arrangements need to be made. We would ask that all arrangements are called in to the office by no later than 2:00 pm. Please understand that the office staff cannot promise that we can possibly have this all arranged when we only receive phone calls 5 or 10 minutes before the bell.
Attendance
For absences or lates, please ensure that you phone the absence line at 403-817-3504, ext. 1. This is our preferred method of notifying us as we cannot check emails at all times.
For extended absences more than 5 days, please also fill out this form – see link: Extended Absence Form
Weather
With the spring weather finally, students are walking or riding their bikes to school. If your child takes the bus, we would ask that you let the office know so that we are not holding up the bus for attendance.
Absences
Also, if your child is in daycare or after school care, please let them know if your child is absent or has other plans as they also do attendance for their programs. Children Come First is our afterschool care and their phone number is 587-228-4797. PLEASE NOTE: We would appreciate if you would contact them directly so that daycare is not looking for your child after school.
