Administrative Message
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,” Malcolm X.
As we reflect on the month of September, our students, staff and families have shown their patience and resilience as we continue to grow as a strong community.
We believe that clear communication builds strong partnerships. All the teachers will be sending weekly emails home on Friday. These emails highlight the week’s events and gives ideas for connecting school to home. Please take time to review these important messages. Our website is another great place to check for upcoming events and activities. We are trying our best to keep it updated. If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call the school office. If you are not receiving these messages or know someone that is not, please ensure to Subscribe to Stay Informed.
Thank you parents and guardians who have set up clear expectations around reading each night and getting a good night sleep! Your support in this area has been noticed by many of our teachers.
Please review safety guidelines with your child when walking to and from school. Many of the roads around our school are busy intersections and students need to be extra careful when crossing the street.
Thank you to School Council! By the time you read this message, our sign should be getting installed. This sign was 100% covered by our School Council and their fund raising efforts. Thank you for enriching the educational experience for all of our students. Each week our School Council send out important messages. You need to subscribe to receive this message. Fall is definitely here! All students should be bringing a warm jacket every day. Calgary weather can change suddenly. It may be +10 in the morning and -5 and snowing by the time school finishes in the afternoon. We are going to continue to have outdoor recess and lunch break, please make sure your child is ready to participate outside.

Lost & Found
We already have a collection of clothing and items on our Lost & Found Table by the office, so please be sure to see if there is anything there that your child has lost before it is given away to Goodwill.
Attendance
For absences or lates, please ensure that you phone the absence line at 403-817-3504, ext. 1. This is our preferred method of notifying us as we cannot check emails at all times.
For extended absences more than 5 days, please also fill out this form and email to Sherri Seddon at snseddon@cbe.ab.ca
With the nicer weather, students are walking or riding their bikes to school. If your child takes the bus, we would ask that you let the office know so that we are not holding up the bus for attendance.
Also, if your child is in daycare or afterschool care, please let them know if your child is absent or has other plans as they also do attendance for their programs. Children Come First is our afterschool care and their phone number is (587) 228-4797. PLEASE NOTE: We would appreciate if you would contact them directly so that daycare is not looking for your child afterschool.
Online Forms
If you have not yet done your online forms for school, please do so as the deadline is tomorrow, Friday, September 27. You will need to complete them by using your MyCBE Account – see image of link below. The Demographic Verification is very important so that we have the most current contact information for you and those picking up your children. As well, we require the Annual Authorization Form which is the Consent to Post & Publish and Media Release.
If you cannot see a link like the one below on your MyCBE Account, it is because your account information and/or information we have at school do not match. Please ensure that you are using the same email addresses. If you are having trouble, please contact us or phone the Parent Help Line 403-817-6373.

How to Pay School Fees
If you have outstanding school fees, you may do the following:
- Pay Online with your MyCBE Account
- Create a Parent Account - To create a new account, go to cbe.ab.ca/mycbe
Parent/Guardians will need to use the email on file at their child’s school, as well as their child’s CBE Student ID number and birth date.
The MyCBE sign-in page contains instructions on requesting an access key for students. The access key(s) will be sent by email. Families can use it to create an account, and add their children to their account. If you are having trouble, please contact the Parent Help Line 403-817-6373.
- If you need to make a payment at your school, please call ahead to make arrangements. You can pay by using a debit/credit card. Please do not send cash as it may get lost in the shuffle and the fee will still be outstanding with the CBE.
- Apply for a waiver - Please refer to this link for more information and if you have accepted documents https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/Waivers.aspx
Keeping Our Students and Families Safe
The front of the school becomes extremely congested before and after school and visibility is often difficult. We understand that this is not convenient at times, but please be patient and considerate and most of all, extremely careful of ALL our students.
Kindly please READ and REMEMBER the following:
- Avoid double parking and do not park on corners of curbs as people cannot cross safely.
- Leave 5 meters between your car and any crosswalk markings. This will ensure children are visible when they enter the crosswalk.
- Teach your children to cross at the crosswalk and not jaywalk by setting an example of doing this yourself.
- Watch for signs indicating "No Stopping" and "No Parking" zones, especially across the street from the school where we have school buses.
- School bus zones must be kept clear so children can step off the bus and onto a curb instead of exiting into a busy street.
- The staff parking lot is reserved for Ken Taylor Staff & CBE personnel only – PLEASE no dropping off of students as this is unsafe.
- If you are dropping off or picking up your children, you do not necessarily need to park in front or beside the school as there is ample parking with access to the school only steps away (you may need to walk a block or two).
- At the end of day pick up, please do NOT stop in the middle of the road and have your children quickly jump in the vehicle (this blocks the flow of traffic and is unsafe).
- When parking on the street, please DO NOT block driveways and crosswalks and DO NOT move garbage bins. We need to be courteous to our neighbors at ALL TIMES. Verbal abuse will not be tolerated and will be reported to the police.
- When you are walking back to your vehicle or home after school please do not cut through private property (i.e. – walking on lawns, etc).
- Should you see traffic infractions in our school zone, please call the police at 403-266-1234 to report it. You may also contact our Community Liaison Officer at the District #7 Office at 403-567-6700.
- Please see Map below for drop off. We strongly encourage parents to follow the drop zone route indicated on the map below. This allows parents to drop off on the sidewalk adjacent to the school and avoids the need to have students cross the road. This is a safer alternative to parking across the street from the school and having student walk onto the roadway.
Please park and drive responsibly and help make streets safe for our children by following this map:
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
