Administration Message
“A little progress each day adds up to big results.” Satya Nani
As we step into the month of March, we begin to see signs of spring around us. Although the weather may feel warmer, please remember that it can still change quickly, so be sure to stay prepared for anything! We hope this brings a little extra joy as we look forward to brighter days ahead.
We are excited to share that our School Dance performance, part of our residency program funded by the School Council, has been a huge success! This program has allowed our students to engage in creative movement, fostering both physical and artistic expression. A big thank you to the School Council for making this possible and to all the families for their continued support.
Additionally, we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of generosity from our school community. Thanks to the thoughtful donations of books from all our families, each student has received a new book to enjoy. This initiative helps cultivate a love for reading and is a wonderful way to celebrate the power of literacy.
As we continue our work, we remain committed to providing high-quality in-person education, despite the ongoing CUPE Local 40 strike. While we are mindful of the situation, our priority is to ensure that our students receive the best learning experience possible. We are thankful for your patience and support during this time.
As the month of Ramadan begins, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to all those who are observing this important time. May this month bring peace and joy to you and your loved ones.
Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and productive month of March. Let’s continue to work together to make this an amazing time for our students!
Sincerely,
Adam Topp, Principal
Melissa Forsyth, Assistant Principal

Attendance
For absences or lates, please ensure that you phone the absence line at 403-817-3504, ext. 1. This is our preferred method of notifying us as we cannot check emails at all times.
For extended absences more than 5 days, please also fill out this form – see link: Extended Absence Form
Also, if your child is in daycare or afterschool care, please let them know if your child is absent or has other plans as they also do attendance for their programs. Children Come First is our afterschool care and their phone number is 587-228-4797. PLEASE NOTE: We would appreciate if you would contact them directly so that daycare is not looking for your child after school.
Student Contact Information
Parents, we would ask that you please ensure that your phone numbers and contact information for your child are updated so that we can reach you. In an emergency, it is very important that we have the most up-to-date information to call you AND be able to leave a voicemail if needed. This can be done by going into your My CBE Parent Account and clicking on the link for “Online Forms” and then filling out the Demographic Verification Report. This is our preferable method but you can also call the school office at 403-817-3504 or send an email to kennethdtaylor@cbe.ab.ca
Also, if you will be late picking up your child, kindly please PHONE the office at 403-817-3504 so that we know you are on your way. We understand this can happen sometimes but we would really appreciate knowing everything is okay so we can let your child know everything is okay. Just a friendly reminder that students must be picked up at dismissal time at 2:30 pm Monday to Thursday and 12:00 pm on Fridays.
If for some reason there will be Grandparents or a Friend taking care of your child while you are away, we need to get this information from the Parent/Guardian BEFORE this takes place and not from the Grandparents or Friend taking care of your child(ren) on the day they are picking up. Our CBE Policy is that we do not let any children be picked up other than who is on your student contact list.
Extra Clothes
With the spring weather, there is a lot of mud and puddles. Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather and we would ask that you send extra clothes in their backpacks as we are running out of extra ones in the office.
Spring Dance Performance Celebration
We are excited to announce the upcoming Dance Performance Celebration as the culmination of the SoundKreation Dance Residency our students have participated in, thanks to the generous fundraising efforts by our School Council. This event will showcase the incredible talent and hard work our students have put into their dance routines over the past few weeks.
Doors will open 15 minutes before each performance. There will be chairs and standing room for the performance. We ask that each student invite a maximum of four (4) adults to the performance. We ask that all adults stay for the entire performance.
We invite families to come and view their student’s hard work. Here is the performance schedule. We appreciate your understanding during this time of change and we are grateful for your continued support!

Traffic Safety
Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.
Please see link for important maps - Parking & Drop-Off
Reminders from the City of Calgary
The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.
Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.
Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks and looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.
When parking, please, never park in front of a driveway – it’s against the law! (The City of Calgary By-law demands that a 1.5m clearance must be observed on either side of a driveway).
Learn more by visiting Calgary.ca/BeSafe.
Staff Parking Lot is for Staff ONLY
When visiting the school, kindly please do not park in parking lot! These spots are all assigned staff parking. Occasionally, you may see a vacant spot; however, it is assigned to a CBE staff member. Please park on the street adjacent to the school, and use the crosswalk. Thank you for your cooperation.
