Administration Message
“Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” John Wooden
As we head into a new year, we would like to thank students, staff, and parents for contributing to the Kenneth D. Taylor School Community. We are all so proud to be part of this amazing community. It is apparent that the work we have done to make this happen successfully has had a positive impact on all of our students. We are really looking forward to the fantastic work that is yet to come in January.
January also brings with it the chance for us to explore new topics and deepen our understanding of the world. We encourage all our students to challenge themselves, stay curious, and ask questions. Whether it’s through engaging in classroom lessons, participating in activities, or collaborating with peers, there are many ways to grow and succeed.
We also want to thank our families for their continued support. Your involvement in your child’s education makes a tremendous difference in their success, and we value the partnership we share with you.
Report cards will be available to view on-line at the end of the month. You need to have a My CBE account in order to view your child’s report card. If you don’t have a My CBE account, please visit the CBE website to create your account: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/reminder-sign-up-for-mycbe-powerschool.aspx
Our next School Council is Tuesday, January 15 at 6:00pm.
Sincerely,
Adam Topp, Principal

2025-26 Instructional Calendar Finalized
The 2025-2026 school calendar has been finalized and posted.
The first day of school for students is:
- Tuesday, Sep. 2, 2025
Feedback regarding students starting prior to September long weekend was taken into consideration for the 2025-2026 school year. In years where labour day falls later into September, such as it does for 2026 (Sep. 7) starting after the long weekend may not be possible; instructional calendars take into consideration Fall break, the timing of January diploma exams set by Alberta Education, and the balance of instructional days between semesters.
Guidelines used to inform the creation of instructional calendars are based on current legislation, provincial examinations and feedback. The calendars include a minimum of 181 instructional days and 10 system-wide days for schools to schedule parent-teacher conferences, professional development, and other organizational days.
Please see link: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/calendars/Documents/2025-2026-Instructional-Calendar.pdf
A tentative calendar for 2026-2027 has also been posted and is subject to change.
Traffic Safety
Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.
Please see link for important maps - Parking & Drop-Off - Kenneth D. Taylor School
Reminders from the City of Calgary
The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.
Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.
Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks and looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.
When parking, please, never park in front of a driveway – it’s against the law! (The City of Calgary By-law demands that a 1.5m clearance must be observed on either side of a driveway).
Learn more by visiting Calgary.ca/BeSafe.
Hug & Go Zone
Please drop your children off on the school side of Evanscove Circle anywhere in front of the school which is a “Hug & Go” zone from 7:15– 8:15. Parents, please DO NOT drop off or pick up your child(ren) in the parking lot. Extra cars in the parking lot result in a very dangerous situation for our students. Please always cross at the corner; and never be-tween busses (choose safety over convenience).
For your child’s safety and for your convenience – we have a dedicated ‘Hug & Go!’ area adjacent to the grass field on Evanscove Circle – sidewalk closest to the school only! This allows you to pull up, say a quick good-bye to your child, have them leave the passenger side of your vehicle and drive away (slowly). Please do not wait in this zone after your child exits your vehicle. Parking is never allowed on this side of the street from 7:15 – 8:15 Monday through Friday. Please see link for important maps - Parking & Drop-Off - Kenneth D. Taylor School
When visiting the school please do not park in parking lot! These spots are all assigned staff parking. Occasionally, you may see a vacant spot; however, it is assigned to a CBE staff member. Please park on the street adjacent to the school, and use the crosswalk. Thank you for your cooperation.
