Our Grade One students celebrated Earth Day by exploring our Science learning about how caring for the environment is a shared responsibility. Throughout the day, we focused on showing respect for and protecting all aspects of nature through a variety of hands-on and reflective activities.
We enjoyed a snack picnic outdoors (despite the windy weather!), giving us an opportunity to appreciate fresh air and our natural surroundings. Students also made birdseed “cookies” to help care for local wildlife, reinforcing the idea that even small actions can support the environment.
In the classroom, students created Earth-themed art and wrote thoughtful “Earth Day Promises,” sharing ways they can help protect the planet. They also reflected on how the Earth provides for us and wrote about what they love most about it.
A highlight of the day was visiting our “sit spots,” where students quietly observed nature and noticed the changes that come with the spring season. This helped deepen their connection to the environment and encouraged mindfulness and appreciation.
Overall, our Earth Day activities helped students understand that caring for the Earth is something we all share and can demonstrate through everyday actions.
