September has been a busy and exciting month in our EES classroom. Coming back to school after summer is a big step, and our students have been working hard to settle into routines, make connections, and learn more about themselves as learners and friends.

Each day begins with our Morning Meeting, a special time when students greet one another, share how they are feeling, and come together as a classroom community. We talk about the calendar, months, seasons, and weather, which helps us start the day with connection and a sense of belonging.

Everyday, we are discovering new ways to grow. We are readers when we listen to stories, share ideas, and explore books like Chrysanthemum, Be Who You Are, Phyllis’s Orange Shirt, and T is for Terry. We are writers when we work with our predictable charts, practice our letters, and share sentences about school, rules, Terry Fox, and Orange Shirt Day.

We are mathematicians when we count, recognize numbers, and practice new ones each week—so far we’ve made it all the way to number four!

We are also artists as we create projects that reflect our community, from our classroom family to the wider Canadian community. Our Orange Shirt Day and Terry Fox activities gave us a chance to celebrate important values while expressing our creativity.

We are communicators as we practice new ways to share our needs and ideas. Using AAC devices and core boards, students are learning how to make their voices heard. Recently, we have been focusing on the words go and want to help us express ourselves in new ways.

Our Fridays are extra special, as we take part in Box Time to practice waiting and turn-taking, and celebrate our Star of the Week—a chance to recognize and cheer on each student’s unique achievements.

We also love moving, singing, and playing together in Gym and Music, which bring energy and joy to our week.

We are so proud of the growth our students have already shown this September. As we head into October, we are excited for the changing season, the colours of fall, and all the new learning adventures still to come.
